« Forest » Project

You and I are one, we are connected on this earth.

These two plots make me and the earth one.

« Forest – Tree & Next » is a long-term forestry project.

There are ‘horizontal’ and ‘vertical’ arrangements for planting trees. Horizontal arrangement : let the big trees stand everywhere on the land. Vertical arrangement : let shrubs, vines and herbs grow under the big trees. After this man-made arrangement, just let the wind, animals, and birds bring seeds. The seeds will germinate freely and grow naturally ; animals, insects, birds will follow and live here. Let biodiversity take its course.

The main focus of the « Forest » project is the diversity of life that comes after planting the big trees.

Since 2018, 19 species of trees have been planted on two plots, a total of 1874 trees.

This is an agricultural and animal husbandry area, located on the hilly land in the central mountainous area of Taiwan, covering an area of 1.9 hectares, 500 meters to 550 meters above sea level, in a subtropical climate zone.

In the past, there were thousands of betel nut trees here. They are getting old, plus the root system is very shallow. On this steep hill, it was decided to let the betel nut trees return to the earth and enter another cycle. Thus, the long-term « Forest » project was ushered in.

In 2019, on this site, 16 species of Taiwan native trees were planted, for a total of 1,776 trees :

54 Calocedrus macrolepis var. formosana

(Taiwan Incense Cedar),

220 Acer serrulatum Hayata

(Green Maple),

366 Fraxinus formosana Hayata

(Formosan Ash),

285 Acacia confusa Merr.

This is an agricultural and animal husbandry area, located on the flat land in the central mountainous area of Taiwan, covering an area of 4000 square meters, 396 meters above sea level, in a subtropical climate zone.

The flat farmland is under a bridge pier, next to the river, and the fertile soil brought by the ancestors has been cultivated here for generations.

Currently, there are about 100 boxes of bees living here, as well as beekeepers’ beekeeping activities. There are also several coffee trees, lemon trees, orange trees, willow trees, lychee trees, longan trees, mango trees and a mulberry tree, as well as hundreds of betel nut trees. However, the betel nut trees are getting old, falling down one after another. Thus, the long-term « Forest » project was ushered in.

In 2018 on this site, 9 species of Taiwan native trees were planted, for a total of 98 trees :
